STRESS AND YOUR FAILING MEMORY


So your memory is beginning to fail you these days. Could stress be the cause. Animal studies have shown that long term exposure to cortical, a stress hormone released by the adrenal gland, kills memory – forming newborns.

Now it seems that high cortical levels have the same destruction effects in humans. Neuroscientists at Rockefeller University in New York and at two Canadian universities have found evidence that stress related brain damage may explain why we often have trouble remembering things as we age.

When I was still studying. Ive heard from a classmate that he usually eats louds of peanuts before an examination day. By doing that, he said, he was able to remember and the things he reviewed and never fail to pass and examinations. He said his forefathers passed on him this belief and he was thankful because of that. I respect his belief and I almost fell on it as well but good thing I was able to read an article from a magazine saying that you don’t really have to eat loads of peanuts and smart pills to get you brain working better.

Whether you're studying at home or do my an important report for the office all you have to do is listen to the music of Mozart for 10 minutes – and mind will improve its performance, so claims researchers writing in Nature. The investigators gave intelligence test to students after exposing them to 10 minutes of Mozart piano music. On average, scores more eight of nine points higher than marks the same students got after listening to relaxation tapes.

Researchers say the highly structured by non repetitive character of Mozart music may stimulate important cognitive pathways in the brain.


LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE

Since childhood I have developed my skills to always make people laugh. I don’t know how but people I know always refer me as a “ funny girl ” and I am happy that I am because Ive learned how will laughter is in having a positive well being.

Researchers at Lorna Linda university Medical Center are looking at how a persons mental state and perspective on life effects the functions of the are studying how “ a merry heart “ ( that is happiness mirthful laughter ) can actually bolster the body’s ability to prevent and combat illness and disease.

Intrigued by the awareness that stres and depression can lower the effectiveness of the body’s immune system, whether positive emotions and attitudes ca improve immune system capabilities.

In the study scientists measured blood stress hormone levels of a group of medical students before, during and after the watched a humorous video. Results showed that mirthful laughter brings about significant changes in certain components of the endocrine system believed to be related to the body’s ability to fight disease..

For instance, the students experienced a reduction in their levels of blood control. Control released during moments of strees ( distress ) , can reduce the circulation of lymphocytes
( immune cells ) in the bone marrow and interfere with their normal functioning in the immune system.

Researchers also foung that mirthful laughter modifies same classical stress hormone levels in ways that may positively influence the immune system.



INTRODUCTION

I admit, at first I’m kinds hesitant to make a health blog. Why? Because I’m not a health buff. I never think of myself as one and I feel that I might be the last person who would think about healthy options. I eat almost anything. I don’t exercise and my diet usually comprise of fatty foods. I am not a fan of vegetable and fruits and I drink sodas almost everyday. I don’t usually drink and smoke but taking a nap every now and then is one of my hobbies.
